Consciousness at Work
Sports coaches, in particular, know that the player’s state of mind (consciousness) is at least as critical as their level of training and physical fitness. The same is true for the “players” in every organization and for the collective consciousness of the organizations themselves.
The level of consciousness within an individual or an organization influences not only the world they perceive but the very experiences that make up their life. Just as different depths of the sea attract specific types of fish so different attitudes and outlooks attract specific types of people, situations and circumstances.
There is an axiom that says, “What we hold in mind and in awareness tends to manifest.”
Most people don’t see themselves as being powerful in their personal lives. How much greater a leap is it then to see themselves as powerful within the life of an organization, a community and beyond. What would any of us do if we each believed – if we each knew – that every decision and every action we take is a vital part of creating the world as we experience it?
Becoming aware of our state of consciousness and the role that consciousness plays in our lives at work and in our organizational communities is one of the more powerful actions that anyone can take. It is an action with the innate ability to engender greater peace and harmony, more free attention (for the tasks at hand) and increased effectiveness.
Anyone who has been part of a high-performing sports team or work team has probably had a taste of what might be called deliberate consciousness and the results that can bring. When people are coached and encouraged to be crystal clear about their goals, to hold those goals in their inner focus and to visualize themselves achieving them, they regularly exceed expectations.
It’s important to stay positive while remaining in touch with reality. When obstacles or challenges arise (as they will) they are seen as an indication of where changes are needed or as an opportunity to develop new skills – they do not signal failure.
Consciousness at Work is an opportunity to enquire into the state of mind within your organization. I like to use tools and approaches ranging from confidential employee surveys to dialogue, drama, art and meditation to gain insight into individual and system-wide attitudes and beliefs.
The aim is a distilled set of Organizational goals. Collectively holding these goals in mind will bring about effective action and a renewed sense of participation and aliveness throughout the organization.
Consciousness at work has the capacity to transform your experience of the world and what you believe to be possible. I bring 25-years experience in project and team leadership, large group facilitation, and a grounded spirituality to support you in this exploration.
